The Nurse Practitioner support allows the parents/caregivers of a child diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental condition to ask questions, clarify their goals, and express concerns. Sue uses a down-to-earth, practical approach to build on the family’s strengths. Sue reassures parents that their child’s diagnosis is not due to their parenting approaches, and she will help them understand how the brain influences the child’s learning and behaviour. The initial appointment requires the child’s attendance, subsequent appointments will be for the parents to receive guidance and support to understand their child’s diagnosis, link to services and to manage specific needs.
